About the Event

The longest race of the season the Annual Around the Island Race will be Season Series #7.

The LPSC Around the Island Race will start at 10am on Saturday.  Forecast looks to be bringing some nice winds for this great event!  This is a long race so the 10am start gets us started and finished with temperatures in the 80's.  I have attached race "pro tip" from Past Commodore Ric Geiman below.  Committee boat will be anchored off of Mark 3.

Fleets will be organized after the required registration through  facebook event, the LPSC website www.LakePuebloSailingClub.org or to the LPSC Commodore. Race rules can be seen in series Notice of Race. Fleet captains meeting will be held before the event at a time to be determined. Fleet communications are made through VHF channel 69, please check in upon arrival at start line with number of crew aboard. Start time may change depending on weather and wind conditions. Boats wanting to enter the season handicap in addition to the season series must submit a LPSC Handicap Form prior to participating in Season Series Racing. All are welcome!!

Ric's Pro Tip - Here’s some advice on rounding the “island” that comes from a few years of experience. It will be marked with one or two hazard buoys. When you approach the island, keep it to starboard. Expect some gusts and wind shifts since the lake narrows and bends up there. As you pass it harden up and head toward the north shore. Tack when it gets shallow and sail close to the wind all the way out. If you are lucky you’ll clear the shoals near Pecks Creek and continue on the same tack all the way to Rock Creek. Whatever you do, don’t tack right after passing the island. It’s very shallow east of the hazard buoys.

This is a nice long race that usually has a lot of passing
